A Father's Day Reflection

A Father's Day Reflection

Father's Day can bring many emotions.
For some, it is a day of celebration. For others, it is a day of remembrance. For many, it is both.
This weekend, we celebrate fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, mentors, coaches, caregivers, and all the men who have helped shape our lives through their love, guidance, patience, and presence.
We also hold space for those who are missing someone this Father's Day. Those who have lost a father. Those who have lost a husband. Those whose memories feel especially close this time of year.

I started MagnaReady because of my husband, Don. After he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, I watched someone who had spent his life
leading, coaching, and supporting others struggle with a task most people never think twice about: buttoning a shirt. What began as a simple desire to help him dress independently became the idea that would eventually grow into MagnaReady.
This year marks ten years since Don passed away. Ten years.
There are moments when it feels impossible that so much time has gone by, and others when it feels like yesterday. Our children have grown. Life has moved forward. Yet the reason I continue this work remains the same.
Every shirt we create, every customer we help, every story we hear from someone regaining a little independence reminds me why MagnaReady exists in the first place.
Don's legacy was never just about Parkinson's. It was about how he showed up for people. As a father. As a husband. As a coach. As a friend. As someone who believed that kindness and dignity matters.

The older I get, the more I realize that our lives are often shaped by the people we love and the experiences that change us. We are all driven by something. Sometimes it is a dream. Sometimes it is a challenge. Sometimes it is a person whose influence continues long after they are gone.
This Father's Day, I hope you take a moment to celebrate the people who have helped shape your story.

Call your dad. Thank your husband. Raise a glass to a grandfather. Share a memory with your children. Tell someone what they mean to you while you still can. The truth is that the people we love rarely realize the full impact they have on our lives. We often think there will be more time.
So today, let's honor them. Let's celebrate them. Let's remember them.
And let's hold a little tighter to the people who are still here.

From my family to yours, Happy Father's Day.

With gratitude,

Maura Horton
Founder, MagnaReady
